About Mike

Mike Wilson grew up in Wilsonville, Oregon on a small 12-acre farm. His love of sports came from his father and mother who showed Mike and his two younger brothers the joy of being on a team, hard work, and what it means to make a commitment. Mike enjoyed playing soccer, basketball, and football. Mike’s father was an avid sportsman who was into basketball and fast pitch softball.

The influence of Mike’s father was immense. He made an indoor basketball court and a batting cage inside the family barn, so Mike and his brothers could practice and play even when the Oregon rain would make playing outside impossible.

As a youngster, Mike enjoyed reading about sport stars, knowing the history of their career, learning the history of different sports and respecting the history of sports. One of aspects of Mike’s young life was the desire to cover sports and commentate on them for a living.

Mike went to Oregon State University where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Communications and later got a Master’s degree in Education, where he has been working in education since in 1995.

Mike finally got his break into sports writing when he started writing for Campuspressbox.com in 2014. He covered the Arizona State Sun Devils and the rest of the Pac-12. In 2016 Mike made the move to Pacifictakes.com/SB Nation. He’s covering the Pac-12, Arizona State, the Pac-12 Football Championship Game, Pac-12 Football Media Days, and Pac-12 Basketball Tournament. Mike has also had the opportunity to meet and interview interesting sports personalities, such Yogi Roth of the Pac-12 Network as well as the 2017 Pac-12 Basketball Hall of Honor Inductees.

Mike is a contributor on Sports Byline USA on their Dorf on Sports Radio Show. He has also had radio appearances on the SB Nation Radio Show as well. Mike will also be a co-host on the Dorf on Sports Radio Show on NBC Sports Radio AM 1060.

When Mike isn’t writing, he is all about his wife, Heather, and his two kids, Taylor and Zach. He loves going to games with the family, especially if the game involves his beloved Oregon State Beavers. Mike is diehard in his feelings for the Beavers.

When Mike writes or speaks on the radio he wants to communicate to the larger picture of a given story. He hopes to bring this to the radio show on NBC Sports as well Pacifictakes.com.
