Atrox Weekly: NL West? More like MLB’s Best!

The series with Detroit was tightly contested despite the outcome with Arizona winnings two one run games. On Wednesday, the Tigers came back after falling down 6-0 early and tied the game with a 6 run 6th, five of the runs being unearned. Arizona would come back, however, to score one in the top of the ninth and Fernando Rodney would save it. He saved the 2-1 win on Wednesday night as well, giving him 15 straight games without an earned run allowed and saves in 12 of his last 13 attempts.

Players of the Week

Brandon Drury: 3 2B, 3 HR, .400/.455/1.000

Fernando Rodney: 3 IP, 3 Saves, 5 K, 1 BB, 0 H, 0 R (2 H, 0 ER, 6 BB, 14 K in last 14.2 IP including all May and June)

Weekly Preview

If playing the Giants and Padres is an advantage, the Diamondbacks have a turbo boost coming up this weekend as they head to Philadelphia for three. With 21 wins, the Phillies are currently the worst team in all of baseball and it will be up to Arizona to not beat themselves by overlooking the young squad.

The series will start on Friday night at 7:05 PM in Philadelphia (4:05 PM in AZ) and will feature Aaron Nola against Patrick Corbin. The DBacks lefty has some rough numbers so far this season thanks to a terrible month of May and a rough start to June. If anything can get him back on track, it should be facing the third worst offense in baseball, although he did just allow three runs in 5.2 innings to the fifth worst offense.

Game two will be Saturday afternoon with a 1:05 PM start in AZ with the rising star Zack Godley going against the fading Jerad Eickhoff. Robbie Ray will look to continue his incredible run in the finale on Sunday that has seen him win five straight starts with a 0.24 ERA across 37 innings and 48 K’s to nine walks. He will face the best Phillies starter of the series, Ben Lively, when the two teams play at 10:35 AM AZ time.

The DBacks then have Monday off for the third week in a row before taking on the division leading Rockies for three in Colorado. Those games will be played Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:40 PM and Thursday at 12:10 PM.

Advanced Stat of the Week

As incredible as Rodney has been of late, his 0.00 ERA has been bolstered by a .083 BABIP and an 83% strand rate. He’s been good, but not that good as his 2.40 FIP over the same span shows. This can’t last forever, but enjoy it while it does.
