Budda Baker will bring Attitude to the Arizona Cardinals

Once the NFL Draft concluded, fans of their respective NFL teams immediately began to think if this year’s crop of rookies were going to be the ones who put their team over the top with a Super Bowl win. Rookies influence on a team’s success is not overwhelming unless your name is Andrew Luck or even Dak Prescott. However, a rookie can bring a breath of fresh air and attitude to a team.

Enter Budda Baker for the Arizona Cardinals.

Budda Baker is a player who is coming to the Cardinals from the University of Washington where he helped resurrect a Husky football program that got to the College Football Playoff where they were beat by the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Cardinal fans want a return to the playoffs, followed by a run to the Super Bowl. Last season was unmitigated disaster for the Cardinals who were picked by many people as being a legit contender for the Super Bowl. Many believe that Arizona drank to much of their Kool-Aid which made them believe that the team could just “show up” and win.

The hunger of the team wasn’t there. What do young players bring? Aggressiveness, attitude, and hunger.

Young players all want long careers and Budda Baker is no different. Having seen this player live and in person on the field I will say this to you Cardinal fans. You should be pretty fired up to have this kid on the team.

To know Budda is to know a little bit about him.

Baker’s official name is Bishard. However, he has basically gone by the name Budda since shortly after birth because his mother thought he looked like a Buddha doll. He was the Washington state high school 100 meter champion as well as a three-time football state champion.

Once Budda Baker stepped on the Washington campus, he made his presence known.

As a freshman, he made 80 tackles, had six pass break-ups, and an interception. That type of play as freshman garnered himself a honorable mention All-Pac 12 distinction. The last couple of seasons he has received first team all-conference honors. He had a combined 120 tackles, 10 of those tackles for a loss, 13 pass break-ups, and two interceptions.

The other aspect to his game that gets talked about is the aggressiveness that he plays with. After seeing him play a few times in person, it is readily apparent that when Budda Baker steps on the football field, he steps on the field with bad intentions. With a player that will probably play strong safety or could possibly play in a nickel package with Cardinals, the fans should rest at ease with knowing that when Budda gets a player in his sights and can lay the big hit, he will.

The concern that people do have with Baker is that he is a bit undersized at 5’10, 190lbs. Fans and coaches like to have the prototypical numbers on any player at any position. What you can not judge is a player’s heart and Budda Baker has plenty of that. I saw Budda simply take a player out of the game mentally after just one hit. I saw players look up after the hit and seeing Baker standing above them as if saying “you don’t want anymore of this”.

Cardinal fans, you should be happy with the drafting of Budda Baker, he’s going to bring the attitude and aggressiveness that you have been demanding of your Arizona Cardinal defense.
